PUMC is involved in many Outreach & Missions Programs; one involves the Hillcrest Shelter, located near Dutchess Community College (see directions below).
We are scheduled to provide meals the fourth Saturday of every month. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board near Fellowship Hall (near the restrooms). What’s involved? Shop for and prepare 100 meat and cheese sandwiches, and 50 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches – individually bagged. Also please bring fruit and/or cookies (or something) for dessert for approximately 45-60 people (may be more during the colder months). As a guideline – 7 pounds of ham, 8 pounds of turkey, 5 pounds of cheese (3 slices of meat to one slice of cheese per sandwich), 1 large jar each of peanut butter and jelly, 10 loaves of bread and bring along separately 2 jars of mayonnaise and one mustard. Another suggestion – after the sandwiches are made and bagged, for easy transport, put them back into the empty bread wrapper! Leftover items from previous visits, i.e., peanut butter, jelly, can be found in the church refrigerator and should be labeled “shelter”. (Please remember to do this!).
Plan to be at the shelter by 7:15 p.m. to serve and you should be done by 9:00 p.m. The church kitchen is available for preparation on Saturday mornings at around 10:00 a.m. (after the men’s breakfast) or you may make the sandwiches at home. You can sign up to do either task or just one. Please be sure to put your contact information on the sign-up sheet. Receipts can be submitted to the church office for reimbursement.

Directions (from PUMC): Make a left from the church. Stay straight onto Hooker Avenue. After 2 miles Hooker Avenue becomes Montgomery Street, after 0.02 miles turn right onto South Hamilton Street (0.4 miles), right onto Thompson Street (0.09 miles). Take the 1st left onto North Clinton Street (0.7 miles), turn right onto Parker Ave / Route 9G go about 1.6 miles, turn right onto Cottage Road (just past Miller Place). Take the 2nd left onto Cheney Drive – if you reach Creek Road you’ve gone about 0.3 miles too far. Take the 1st left onto Snow Terrace (0.05 miles) and Hillcrest House is on the right.
