History of the Program

The program first started as a story hour and from that a growing need was seen to establish a tutoring program. In September, 1997, The Tubman Terrace Tutoring

Program opened it's doors. Withan enrollment of 24 students, the program was open Tuesday through Thursday from 3:15pm to 5:00pm. In 1999, we expanded our

program to include an extra tutoring day and a Friday Enrichment Program. Since our inception, we have gone through several name changes. First known as the

TubmanTerrace Tutoring Program, it was changed to the Tubman Terrace After School Program and the finally to our current name: The Harriet Tubman Academic

Skills and Enrichment Program.
