Spring Cleaning

Are you getting spring fever?

Are you itching to get outdoors and do something different?

Do you want an adventure in putting your faith into practice?

Do you want to spend an overnight with church friends?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then you are the right person to join a very short mission project this month. What is it? Well, Camp Epworth needs some people to come help paint and rescreen a few cabins. A group of families, youth and adults from our church will be going to help out.

The group will be going on Friday night, April 21 for dinner and a time of worship together. Then we’ll be staying in some cabins overnight. In the morning, some people will do the painting and rescreening. But the team also needs some people to hang out with little kids while their parents are working. And the group also needs some a cooking team to prepare a few meals. The team will finish by Saturday evening. And there’s no cost for going to help out. Your whole family can come along. Look for a sign up sheet on the Discipleship bulletin board to get involved.

Looking more like Jesus

Many of you took the Lenten challenge this year: you took on a spiritual habit  for the 40 days before Easter. You read scripture or followed a daily devotional or gave something up. Has it made a difference? Are you starting to look more like Jesus? Even if you didn’t totally succeed in avoiding all chocolate (for example) you may still have learned something. Try asking yourself these questions and maybe writing down the answers in a journal:

·       What made it hard to keep doing the thing I wanted to do? What temptations did I face?

·       How did I deal with temptation? What can I learn from any failures?

·       How did the practice help me focus on God during Lent?

·       What did I learn about God by trying to give up something or take on a habit?

·       What did I learn about myself as I tried to form a spiritual habit?

Is MySpace a safe place?

Xanga, MySpace, email, im

Teens rely on them for their friendships. Parents are concerned.

What’s true and what’s not about internet safety?

How can we all use technology to help us, and stay safe while we’re doing it?

How can we be part of a healthy community of friends?

PUMC Youth Fellowship will be hosting a forum for students and parents to learn about and discuss these issues.

DARE police officer and church member Frank Kolarik will make a presentation.

Summer Mission Team News

M-FUGE Team: Now is the time to be sure that you have made plans to participate in one of the community service projects that will help you get ready for a week of service in Philadelphia. The team has signed up to cook dinner and serve at the homeless shelter on Saturday, April 22 and Saturday, May 27. You may also try tutoring at Tubman Terrace on a weekday afternoon, 3 – 5 pm. Call the Hart family (463-1419) to get a ride on Monday or Wednesday.

Mexico Outreach Team: Be sure to check over your team job description, so that you can be ready with any assignments you had before the next team meeting this month. Also think about a personal testimony that you might be able to share when we are in Mexico and write it out so it can be translated. If you haven’t gotten your forms signed, please remember to fill those out.
