Students, Parents and the Internet
The
internet is part of our daily lives – some of us even check our email 5 times a
day! Students check in with their friends on im and
special websites. It seems like the internet is helping us connect with others
better. But we’ve all been hearing a lot on the new lately about some of the
dangers of the internet. What response do we as Christians take? How do we use
technology safely? On May 7, from 6 - 8 pm during our regular youth fellowship
time, we will be holding a special meeting for students and parents to talk
about these things. Frank Kolarik is a DARE police officer and a member of our
church. He’ll help us sort through the issues. There will be separate times for
students and parents to hear about how the internet affects them, as well as a
special time for parents to be together and support each other. Please join us!

The Laurel Run: An opportunity to serve
On
May 21 at 10 am, the Dutchess County ARC will be
hosting their annual Laurel Run/Walk. This walk supports many programs and
services for citizens with developmental disabilities in our county. The ARC
helps them find suitable jobs or housing, get life-skills training, and meet
others at recreational programs. The ARC actually employs 300 disabled people
in our county. This is important work, helping families and individuals who
might otherwise be forgotten and left without support.
We
would encourage interested youth to sign up to participate in the walk, both to
help others and to enjoy a service outing together. There are great prizes for
those who are able to sponsored up to various levels,
and snacks are available for walkers. Please see a sign-up board in the church
fellowship hall to register as a walker.

Mission Team News
Both Mission teams will continue their preparations
at team meetings this month. M-Fuge will be meeting
on Sunday, May 21 from 4 – 6 pm. Mexico Outreach will be meeting from 6 – 8 pm
on Thursday, May 25.
During the month of May, we will be offering our
fellow congregants the opportunity to join our mission team by becoming
“mission stock-holders.” On May 7, 14 and 21, we will tell interested
congregants more about ourselves and the mission trips as we offer the stock to
them. Sign up on the youth bulletin board to help with this fund and
support-raiser. We will also be preparing for our Flea Market fundraiser on
June 10. We continue to pray for another male adult leader to join the M-Fuge team.

Adults Supporting the Youth
Although
it’s only May, we are already looking towards next fall and what will be in
store for our youth ministry. We will be looking for a few new youth leaders
for both the junior high and senior high groups. And there are other surprising
ways for you to support our youth – some of these ways may be less time-consuming
and could truly bless you as you use your particular gifts to build up the
youth in their faith. Please pray and if you feel led, please tear off and
return the form to Pastor Rebecca’s mailbox at the church.
