Becoming the Family of God

This fall, we are working hard on one particular are of our lives as Christians: we’re trying to treat each other well. No trash talk. No harmful horsing around. Paying attention to each other. That sounds like hard work, huh? But where else are we going to learn how to handle each other with care. As it says in Ephesians 4:29 “ When you talk, do not say harmful things, but say what people need –words that will help others become stronger. Then what you say will do good to those who listen to you.” There may be some growing pains as we all get used to living by that standard – parents please help us out with this! We have several events planned for this month to help us get to know one another better and to help new youth feel more comfortable at the youth fellowship.

Alpine Slide Event: This fabulous opportunity was too good to pass up! On Monday, October 2, Hopewell Reformed Church has rented the entire mountain park at Jiminy Peak and invited us to join them. There’s no school, so we’ll take the whole day (9:30 am – 6 pm) to drive up and play together there. The cost of $30 includes rides, transportation and a box lunch for the ride home. Bring a bag lunch for the ride up. Bring friends! Turn in your event covenant and $30 check to PUMC by Sept 24 or ASAP.

Fall Banquet

On October 15, we’ll be holding our first Banquet – games, dinner and worship – of the year. This one is an open house: if you haven’t been to youth fellowship before, please join us on this night. You are warmly welcome!

Junior High Retreat: A record number of junior high students will be heading to Lake Champion near Port Jervis, NY for a weekend away together. We’ll be with 400 other junior high youth from other churches, but we’ll have a lot of time to bond as a group, too. The beautiful scenery, great program and fun activities all work together to help us discover some new spiritual depth. There are still a few spaces – talk to Pastor Rebecca if you want to come along!

A few other new things this fall:

V      Sign in…sign out: We want to be sure that every stays safe when they come to youth fellowship. So we’ll be asking you to sign in and sign out on Sunday nights.

V      Prayer calendar: We know it’s a jungle out there. We all need prayer to get through it and feel God’s presences in the middle of a hectic schedule, school pressures, social drama and temptation. So, we’re going to work on praying for each other. Each month we’ll have youth sign up for a day that will be their special day to receive prayer.

V      Youth directory: We know the real thing will be coming out one of these days. But in the meantime, we’ll be sending out an in-house directory to youth who have attended youth fellowship at least twice. We hope it will help Christian friendships continue to grow.
